EverNote - News and Press Releases
Sunnyvale, Calif., October 4, 2006 - EverNote Corporation today announced the immediate availability of EverNote 1.5 software, the newest version of its popular note taking and information capturing application.
EverNote software provides a single place for capturing, categorizing and instantly locating all types of information, such as typed and handwritten notes, web clips, emails, phone messages, addresses, passwords, brainstorms, sketches, photos and documents, and accessing them on multiple platforms and devices…
In early October, I wrote about Google’s Notebook for note taking (see Note taking while online). The EverNote announcement above came out at around the same time, so I thought I’d have a look. I’ve been a user ever since.
EverNote is as convenient to use as the Google service, if not more so, and has the advantage of keeping everything on your machine or machines. I’m presently using it just as a Web page grabber, which is a one-click operation. (There is a free, downloadable extension for doing this in Firefox.)
There are many more features in the software, which is free in its basic version. The paid-for version costs $39.95 and adds inter-machine synchronization, handwriting recognition and searching of handwritten notes.
Google Notebook is still worth considering, especially for its ability to make public pages. It is also still slighty faster than switching to an offline editor such as EverNote when editing material, as opposed simply to pasting it in.
