QlikTech and Kalido have just announced a formal partnership agreement to deliver a fully integrated information management and business intelligence solution. They maintain that the integrated solution will provide companies with accurate business performance information and enable them to respond to business changes with unrivalled agility.

The demand for accurate, timely and consistent business performance information is increasing significantly fueled by the ever more rapidly changing marketplace. Businesses need performance indicators to be available faster in order to have the relevant information to hand when taking business decisions. Customers are becoming increasingly frustrated with the delayed road maps and integration challenges of many BI vendors. As I highlighted in a recent white paper “BI: The Inconvenient Truth”, the main problem with traditional business intelligence tools and the underlying data infrastructure is that they fail to deliver the flexibility, speed and consistency which companies desperately need in today’s demanding market environment.

This is certainly a good step forward for Kalido. Kalido’s unique model driven business information engine coupled with QlikTech’s innovative and successful analysis technology will offer a BI solution that can be rapidly deployed and is easy to change as business requirements change.

QlikTech’s flagship product, QlikView, has already gained wide acceptance (QlikTech was named by IDC as the worlds fastest growing BI vendor) as a product which is intuitive to learn, easy to modify queries and able to be rapidly deployed. Connecting and relating data from many sources is relatively simple and its patented in memory association technology means that it delivers query results fast.

Kalido uses a unique information engine based upon generic design principles that enables it to be driven by a ‘real world’ business model (a model of your business the way it actually works). In practice this means that the design is very flexible and can be easily and quickly modified to take account of new business events and changes. So events such as mergers and acquisitions—generally very complex and difficult to build into traditional solutions—can be accommodated fast and with relative ease.

The combination of having Kalido behind your BI and QlikView as your BI tool is a prime example of the way the future of BI needs to develop.

Despite its visionary business oriented approach to information management Kalido has long struggled when demonstrating the product to end-users because there is nothing to ‘see’ (How do you demonstrate a flexible business model?). Seamlessly integrating a tool (especially one as successful as QlikView) is a very positive move since it will enable Kalido to really show the power of their solution while offering a powerful, intuitive and visual way to analyze the data managed by Kalido.

The two companies report that some joint customers are already reaping the benefits of combining the products based upon a currently available custom solution. They have committed to deliver full seamless integration by the end of September.
