Shell Schiphol rolls out ZBD's electronic shelf labels for dynamic pricing
Released: 22nd July 2010
Publisher: ZBD

The Netherlands' busiest petrol forecourt store, the Shell store near Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport, has installed electronic shelf labels from ZBD, the epaper for retail specialist, to enable dynamic pricing that will reduce operational costs.

The owner of the Shell store, said, "We decided to implement ZBD's epops because we wanted the ability to change our prices in the POS system and on the shelf edge at the same time. We also felt that ZBD's electronic shelf labelling solution was the system with the best look and feel. Other future advantages may include "dynamic pricing", so that we can change prices depending on the time of day, as we are open 24 hours a day. In the future, we might also be able to work with the brands that we stock in "promotional activities", as we are able to show logos on the displays."

System integrator CREO-CPS was responsible for the integration of the ZBD solution with the store's existing Back Office solution for Petrol Stations provided by JNG IT and the Tokheim Retail automation solution, one of the leading providers of petrol station solutions.

The owner continued, "The ZBD solution integrated seamlessly with the Tokheim system due to the scalability and easy fit provided by the two parties involved; JNG IT and CREO-CPS. The solution resulted in a delivery without any disruption to our business and with impressive low installation costs. The store in which the epops have been implemented is around 140 square metres and only one Bounce communicator is needed to support the whole system! The epops are working very well and look great. We've had excellent feedback from our customers."

Commenting on the project with Shell, David Rogers, Sales & Marketing Director at ZBD, said, "Petrol stations are an excellent example of where our technology can deliver immediate benefits and results. They are an ideal environment for smart retailers who want to engage in dynamic pricing and price optimisation, and our solution enables retail operations to use this technology quickly, easily, and at a low cost."

Before implementing the epop solution from ZBD, the store was using paper labels throughout the store.
