A fifth of business time is wasted searching for information, says Interact
Released: 2nd May 2013

19.8 per cent of business time – the equivalent of one day per working week – is wasted by employees searching for information to do their job effectively, according to research released today by Interact.

Results of the Interact Customer Analysis Survey show that by implementing intelligent social intranets, the time taken to find information reduces by 19.8 per cent. In addition, the efficiency of internal processes increases by 21 per cent, repeated internal queries drop by 15 per cent, and internal email traffic drops by 10 per cent.

Nigel Danson, CEO of Interact, explains, “Time is critical to business success, it is therefore vital that inefficient internal processes are eliminated. When an employee requires information to do their job effectively, finding relevant information can be an arduous task. Businesses therefore must meet the demand for accurate and relevant content which supports specific business and employee requirements to enable people to get work done efficiently.”

The research from Interact comes on the back of the launch of Interact Intranet 7, a solution which intelligently blends productivity and social tools to aid communication, collaboration and carry out key business processes to ensure the right content intuitively finds the right people - eliminating processes which waste both time and money.

Nigel says, “Far too often intranets are technology-focused, when to be most effective they must focus on the specific requirements and needs of the business, the employees and the tasks they need to do. By using a mix of productivity and social tools such as ‘suggestions’, ‘recommendations’ and ’timelines’, Interact Intranet 7 identifies individuals’ trends and pushes the most relevant content based on their interactions and key business processes.

“This improves communication and productivity by enabling employees to access information specifically relevant to them, on demand. A culture of collaboration and idea sharing is promoted in familiar virtual surroundings by using corporate social networking and micro blogs.”

About Interact
Interact understands that effective and efficient collaboration is an essential part of business life.

Interact Intranet filters through the noise that is traditionally pushed out by intranets by utilising a blend of social and easy-to-use productivity tools to aid communication, collaboration and completing key business processes. This in turn reinvigorates employee engagement and interaction, empowers staff and increases productivity; helping people to get work done and achieve results quickly.

The roll-out of the software is aligned to enable units outside of IT, such as HR, marketing and operations, to quickly deploy, build and benchmark operational solutions.

With over 500,000 users, Interact Intranet is a flexible and scalable solution which complies with ITIL best practice, conforms to Information Security Standard, ISO 27001 and adheres to the Investors in People standard.

Founded in 1996, Interact has offices in the UK and US, and works with global brands such as Park Plaza Hotel Group, NHS, Kantar Media and DHL.
