Comtek Opens New Dedicated Nortel Repair Lab To Meet Growing International Demand

Operations spearheaded by ex-Nortel MD, staffed by Nortel engineers in Nortel's Belfast HQ
Released: 27th June 2013

June 27, 2013 – Comtek, a pan-European provider of telecoms and communications equipment repair services, has today announced the launch of its new dedicated Nortel Repair Lab in Belfast. Officially opened yesterday, the facilities are housed within Nortel’s former Northern Ireland headquarters, and served by ex-Nortel engineers. Building on the already successful Nortel operations at Comtek’s Deeside HQ, this expansion comes as the company continues to see international demand for its specialist Nortel repair services soar.

By establishing operations in Nortel’s former Northern Ireland Headquarters in Belfast, Comtek is able to re-use Nortel’s technology, as well as Belfast’s local pool of talent, thus enabling the team to deliver Nortel repair services on an international scale.

“Comtek identified a gap in the market for Nortel specialist expertise and through the hard work of our in-house engineers, we have been able to provide the support that end-users need,” said Askar Sheibani, CEO at Comtek. “The opening of our Belfast operations represents our latest measure to provide support for these end-users. Our continued investment in world class engineers, to provide the specialist services required to service and maintain Nortel equipment, means that end-users can now continue to use their products for the foreseeable future, confident in the knowledge that expert support is readily available through Comtek.”

The new Nortel repair centre in Belfast adds to Comtek's already well established expertise in the field. Comtek's HQ in Deeside, North Wales, currently provides global support and technical services for more than a third of the telecoms products currently on the market today. As demand for these services grows, Comtek has appointed former MD of Nortel, John Freebairn, to its executive team and has tasked him with spearheading the expansion and investment into Belfast.

“The past six months working with Comtek have been an incredible journey and I am delighted to be able to use my expertise from Nortel to play such a big part in investing in Comtek’s future,” said John Freebairn, group director and vice president of business development at Comtek. “Belfast has a rich heritage in Nortel engineering expertise and with the support of Invest NI, we’re looking to build on this to create a true centre of excellence that will serve the needs of Nortel’s global customer base over the years to come.”
