(London, UK. – May 4. 2011) – Scale Computing, a developer and manufacturer of intelligent, scale-out storage solutions tailored to the virtualisation and archiving needs of the small and medium-sized enterprise (SMB), today announced record results for its first quarter, ending March 31, 2011 (Q1’11). Scale Computing’s Q1’11 revenue grew 258 percent over Q1’10. In addition, Scale Computing also announced that Doug Hooton has joined the company as vice president of operations.
"As virtualisation gains popularity with the SMB, Scale is uniquely positioned for continued, substantial growth,” said Jeff Ready, CEO and co-founder of Scale Computing. “Our unified, scale-out storage is ideal for SMBs looking to implement virtualisation as it allows customers to add both capacity and performance in a unified environment - something that Dell and HP do not. Additional Q1’11 Scale Computing highlights include:
- 25 percent increase of units in the field quarter-over-quarter
- Shortened average sales cycle by 9 percent quarter-over-quarter
- Customer growth accelerated 27 percent quarter-over-quarter
- Increased employee count by 30 percent quarter-over-quarter
- Positioned in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Midrange and High-End NAS Solutions*
- Named to CRN’s 2011 5-Star Partner Programs Guide
- Named a 2011 TechPoint Mira Awards Program Finalist for the third consecutive year

In his new role at Scale Computing, Hooton is responsible for creating, implementing and managing the company's product logistics, support, professional services, and training programs for customers and partners.
Hooton joins Scale Computing from EMC’s sales organisation. Prior to EMC, Hooton served as vice president of client services with ExactTarget. Doug has held senior operations and client services positions with several established and early stage companies including Walker Information, TManage, Rodeer Systems and IntelliQuest.
