SMEs waste up to 17 work days a year managing holiday bookings for staff

Keeping up with the holiday paper trail means SMEs are wasting precious time and money

9th January 2013: The January blues are here again and many of us are already thinking about booking a break in the sunshine. But, if you run a small business, managing holiday bookings for your staff can be a time-consuming and costly business.

Many SMEs still track staff holiday allocation using paper based forms, which need to be located, distributed, collected and the data recorded on a master document each time a staff member books some time off.

breatheHR, a Sussex based , online HR company for small and medium sized companies, estimates that an average business, with around 50 staff, spends 125 hours a year (that’s 17 lost work days!) just managing holiday requests for their staff, using these outmoded methods.  breatheHR also calculates that for a company of 25 staff, managing holiday allocation can waste up to nine working days.
