Toshiba Announces The Launch Of a New Addition To The Stor.E Plus Portable Range

The new STOR.E Plus HDD offers 2TB of storage capacity
Released: 9th September 2013
Publisher: Speed

5 September, 2013, Neuss – Toshiba Europe GmbH (TEG), Storage Peripheral Division, has today announced the addition of a new 2TB hard drive (HDD) to its travel friendly STOR.E Plus[1] external HDD range. The STOR.E Plus range has been developed by Toshiba to provide a simple storage solution with a portable travel design. The new STOR.E Plus not only comes with a sizable 2TB[2][3] storage capacity, but it also has SuperSpeed 3.0 USB connectivity and plug and play technology, for quick and easy use whilst on the go.

With remote working becoming increasingly popular, especially for the thousands of people who spend an average of 75 minutes[4] a day commuting to and from work, the need to secure and back up valuable data whilst on the move has never been more important. With unsecure Wi-Fi connections available in most public spaces and occasional weak spots with 3G coverage, consumers run the risk of losing or corrupting precious data files viewed or edited on the move, which can be prevented with a portable back up capability.

Toshiba’s 2TB STOR.E Plus HDD is now capable of storing up to 570,000 digital photos*, 520,000 digital music files**, or a massive 1,640 downloaded digital movies***[5][6]. It’s also equipped with a special internal shock sensor and ramp loading technology to protect against accidental drops and keep consumers’ valuable digital files safe. With plug and play technology and a transfer rate of up to 5GB/s, the STOR.E Plus is a fast, simple storage solution with the ability to protect valuable data whilst on the move.

Innovatively designed to be the perfect travel companion, the new STOR.E Plus is slightly smaller than an iPhone 5 in length, with sleek, dramatic black casing that fits easily into any handbag, briefcase or pocket. It also comes with a two year warranty to give consumers peace of mind and reliability.

“With people travelling more than ever and using smart devices and laptops, valuable data needs to be backed up to ensure loss or corruption doesn’t affect productivity. Toshiba is leading innovation in the consumer electronics market, using its unique insight into the needs of consumers to create storage devices that fits into our daily lives. People need a storage solution that can be carried easily and accessed quickly on the go. Our new STOR.E Plus HDD combines a portable design with quick, easy access and a storage capacity that packs a punch,” said Arnaud Bonvarlet, General Manager Europe, Storage Peripheral Division, Toshiba Europe GmbH.

The new 2TB STOR.E Plus HDD will be available for purchase from 26th September 2013 and its suggested retail price is 129€.

[2] One Gigabyte (1GB) means 109 = 1,000,000,000 bytes and One Terabyte (1TB) means 1012 = 1,000,000,000,000 bytes using powers of 10. A computer operating system, however, reports storage capacity using powers of 2 for the definition of 1GB= 230 = 1,073,741,824 bytes and 1TB = 240 = 1,099,511,627,776 bytes, and therefore shows less storage capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various media files) will vary based on file size, formatting, settings, software and operating system and other factors.

[3] Definition of Capacity: TOSHIBA defines a megabyte(MB) as 1,000,000bytes, a gigabyte(GB) as 1,000,000,000 bytes, and a terabyte(TB) as 1,000,000,000,000bytes.

[5] * Based on 6 MegaPixel digital camera using JPEG compression, average photo size 3.5MB/Photo

** Based on 128Kbps, average song length of 4 min.

*** Based on 1.8Mbps, average movie length of 90 min.

(As used for storage capacity, one megabyte (MB) = one million bytes, one gigabyte (GB) = one billion bytes, and one terabyte (TB) = one trillion bytes. Total accessible capacity varies depending on operating environment.)

[6] Examples of the number of photos, songs, movies and any other files that can be stored on a hard drive are provided for illustrative purposes only. Results may vary.
